The Fire Prevention Association of Massachusetts, Inc. was
established in February 1974. The membership quickly grew to 500 members and monthly meetings were held on the second Tuesday
of every month. For additional information on the history of the Association see “Fire Prevention Association Memories”
by David J. Goggin who is a retired Deputy Chief of the Salem Fire Department and the Secretary Emeritus of the Association.
The Fire Prevention Association consists
of approximately 500 members. The membership consists of the following categories. Active Members, who are currently members
of a fire department, Government, Military or Educational Institution who are currently performing fire prevention or suppression
activities. Life Members, who are retired from the status of Active Membership but have been members of the Association for
three years prior to their retirement. Associates Members are personnel interested or involved in fire prevention activities,
which are allied to our purpose, which shall include professional, corporate or industrial personnel, but will not have voting
privileges in the business of the Association. Honorary Members, who are persons who have rendered conspicuous service to
the Association and who have been approved by the Executive Board and Board of Directors, but will not have voting privileges
in the business of the Association.
The Regular Monthly Educational Meetings of the Association
are held on the Second Tuesday of every month. The meetings are held in various communities across the Commonwealth and begin
at 10:00 A.M. A luncheon is served at 12:00 P.M. with adjournment at the conclusion of the educational presentation and business
meeting of the Association. Adjournment is usually prior to 1:00 P.M. The luncheon and coffee and cost are $25.00 per person,
which includes the $5.00 meeting fee. There is an Annual Educational Seminar, the dates and location will be posted soon.
